Event Details

Based on the classic story by Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden tells the tale of Mary Lennox, whose parents die in India, so she is sent to her wealthy uncle’s country estate in England. She is introduced to a piece of earth in a forbidden garden, and her journey in learning how to nurture this earth is part of her maturing. Through meeting Martha, the maid, Dickon, the nature boy, Colin, the bedridden cousin, as well as the many animal friends, including Robin, Captain (the fox), Soot (the rook), and other creatures, Mary discovers that she is capable of more than she ever realized.

In 1977, founders Peggy Wilson and Kendyl Griffith established the Newberry Ballet Guild as a  non-profit organization intended to promote the art of dance in Newberry County, South Carolina. Through 45 seasons, including a national pandemic, NBG has kept dance alive for the community.
