The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra is “the premier American ragtime ensemble” as hailed by “The Washington Post,” and is one of America’s few professional ensembles dedicated to the preservation of America’s first popular music: Ragtime. “Christmas at the Silent Movies” features the holiday-themed silent films of the early 1900s: Buster Keaton in “The Frozen North” (1922), Laurel & Hardy in “Big Business” (1929) and the first-ever film adaptations of “A Christmas Carol” (1910) and “The Night Before Christmas” (1905), all accompanied live with their original orchestral scores.

Event Details

This orchestra recreates the sounds of the concert stage, the dance halls, and the theatre with - ragtime, dance music, theatre selections, and silent film accompaniment, all performed off the original musical scores. Founded in 2010, by a young virtuoso, Andrew Greene, this orchestra was being widely praised for its work to preserve and share America’s rich musical history, and tours the U.S. with their toe-tapping concert and silent film program. Between the silent Christmas movies, Director Andrew Greene and Peacherine perform favorite Christmas songs and carols and even feature a trombone solo parodying the famous “Hallelujah Chorus.”
