This Astronaut Camp was rescheduled from 2020 to July 12-16, 2021. 

Janet Ivey of the award-winning "Janet's Planet" and President of Explore Mars, Inc. is proud to return to Newberry for a second year of STEAM camps. This Astronaut Science Technology Engineering Arts & Mathematics camp is geared towards rising 2nd through 5th graders.

Event Details

Blast off and launch a life long love of all things space and science with Janet's Planet Astronaut Academy, a camp that creates out of this world engagement with Janet and her Team of Educators and Experts. Each day brings a new Mission! You'll Zoom with an Astronaut, a Pilot, A Scientist, a Mars Rover Specialist and a Mathemagical Genius! You'll have astronaut challenges and science experiments and hands-on experiences that will test your astro skills! 

Most of all you will have the opportunity to explore, learn and get a daily dose of science and space that will boost your child's confidence in their STEAM abilities. Janet’s Planet, Come have a blast!

This 5-day camp will run from 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. July 12-16, 2021. Each day will include STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) activities, physical activities, "Astronaut Training" journaling, and even lunch.

Led by Janet of PBS's "Janet's Planet", NASA STEM Certified Florida Teacher of the Year Dr. Lori Bradner and more fun instructors who brought you Eclipsefest.

$200 fee includes 9:00-5:00 P.M. Pre-packed snacks and lunch will be provided.


Camp While Living with COVID-19 Procedures 

•Parents are asked not to enter the facility – just drop-off/pick-up students from the car line.

•Only one door will be open for entrance (patio door off of McKibben St.)

•All students’ temperatures will be checked every morning upon entry. Any student with 100.4 temperature or higher will be asked to not attend that day’s session. (You may want to check before you leave the house.)

•Students who are ill or have been exposed to those who are ill are asked not to attend.

•As social distancing may not always be possible, students are encouraged to wear personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves. Please put your student's name on their mask.

•All staff and volunteers will wear masks and gloves and will be temperature checked before working.

•Cleaning and sanitation regiments have been increased especially for high touch surfaces such as railings, seats, and door handles.

•Students will be divided into pods and kept together in their smaller groups all week to limit exposure.

•Hand sanitizer will continue to be available throughout the venue.

•Students will be asked to provide their own lunch each day. Pre-packaged snacks will be provided at other times during the day.

•Please send students with their own water bottles and a beach towel.

•Activity packets (including scissors, etc.) will be packaged separately for each student.

•Materials (such as recyclables for building space ships, etc.) will be sanitized with UV light and sanitation solutions.

•Graduation will be broadcasted on Facebook Live on the last afternoon of camp. An outdoor option may be discussed for this special event on the final day.
